Toastmasters is all about COMMUNICATION – that means speaking AND listening. Actually, listening is your most used communication skill.
Various studies stress the importance of listening. A typical study points out that many of us spend 70 to 80 percent of our waking hours in some form of communication. Of that time, we spend about 9 percent writing, 16 percent reading, 30 percent speaking, and 45 percent listening. Studies also confirm that most of us are poor and inefficient listeners.
When other people talk, do you listen to what they mean, or do you just hear what they say? Listening is a much more active skill than some may think. Effective listening requires certain techniques for receiving, organizing, and interpreting what has been said.
Effective listening is an art and you can learn it at Bamberg Toastmasters.
Join us for our next meeting. We are looking forward to welcoming you!
